TED After Party

The TED Fellows program is a global network of 300 innovators and pioneers from a spectrum of backgrounds. Becoming a Fellow isn’t an easy task, the program looks only for the best of the best. The latest class included a bioengineer who programs bacteria to change to colour of urine to signal the presence of cancer – pretty impressive right?

The annual program was recently sponsored by Johnnie Walker. With two prestigious brands working in partnership, it was necessary to create an extraordinary event to capture the synergies between the pair.

The party was held at the Oxford Freud bar, a former Greek Revival Church. As a Grade 1 listed building, the venue came with tight restriction which Toolshed had to adhere to when designing the elements for the evening.

Inspired by the venue itself, it was decided to follow a classical theme – subtly transforming the space into one fit for a special occasion. Our AV technical support incorporated layers of branding and lighting which was changeable depending on the audience mood. Plasma screens were mounted on temporary walls, displaying a slideshow of the TED Fellow members alongside drapes of Johnnie Walker Giants – emphasising the importance of the Fellows achievement.

The event enabled the Fellows with a chance to discover the history and heritage of Johnnie Walker, sampling the brands blue and black labels. The evening concluded with a famous TED Talk by Iyeoka Okoawo.

Our planning and production management created a brand experience for guests, not just a party.
